Day One in the land of Oz (or Hartford, CT whichever). The flight was good, Southwest is a good way to get here (better than a tornado) the plane wasn't crowded so I had room to spread a little. I shared my half of the row with a teenage boy, once the pilot gave the ok for electronic devices, he was already half-way into his ipod selections. So it was a good time to pull out the sketchbook and get some of my homework done. Can you have homework before you've even started class? Maybe once they have your tuition it's a green light for the homework to begin.
I arrived ahead of the others. But while waiting found one of the new HAS students, Paul. He's from CO, and funny enough he works in my old stomping grounds as a child and lives behind one of my favorite places as a kid, Casa Bonita. The rest of the crew arrived by plane and automobile. We found each other, pictures are so deceiving, and crammed all of our stuff into the Heather mobile. I just want to say at this point, I had the furthest to come, and I had the smallest amount of stuff. (clap clap)
I had forgotten how different it is in New England from UT. I miss being able to see the road ahead, more than a few feet. It's lovely here, the trees, green lushness, but when in a new place you can get really lost. I miss having mountains to point me in the right direction. No landmarks here, maybe an internal navigation device starts to develop once you've lived here long enough. Maybe the GPS was invented for New Englanders to find their way home. Anyway I'm lost, but at least I'm not the one driving. It's nice and humid too, I commented on that, Maureen asked me what it was like in Utah, compared to here the Sahara. Yeah for air conditioning!
